Welcome to Rebuilding Together Rebuilding Together Alexandria (formerly Christmas in April) brings volunteers, communities, and resources together to improve the homes and lives of Alexandrians in need. Our vision for Alexandria is a vibrant community where people of all income groups and cultures live in safe and healthy homes. Rebuilding Together Alexandria impacts the overall quality of life for residents in the City of Alexandria in many ways including maintaining affordable housing, revitalizing communities, and stabilizing low- and moderate-income areas by eliminating blight in many neighborhoods. We are dedicated to repairing and rehabilitating homes free of cost for those in need, including the elderly, persons with disabilities, military veterans, and families with children. The principles that guide us:
Since 1986, this non-profit organization has been committed to donating home repairs to the in-need families of our Alexandria, Virginia community. Learn about our history. We have worked on 1,547 projects throughout the City of Alexandria with the help of 21,000+ volunteers. We are part of a national network of over 200 affiliates, making Rebuilding Together the nation's largest nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership and to revitalize neighborhoods by providing home repair services free of charge to those in need. Here is a visual representation of our impact:
Rebuilding Together Alexandria is a gift of volunteered time and materials given to repair the homes of homeowners who are physically or financially unable to perform these repairs. Because of the work RTAs volunteers do, physically-challenged recipients become more self-sufficient with greater home mobility, most elderly clients age-in-place for many years beyond the repair year, and families don't have to choose between feeding their children or fixing a leaking roof. RTA provides repair services year round, but the emphasis of our volunteer projects still focuses on National Rebuilding Day -- held every year in the month of April, and is the culmination of volunteer rebuilding events leading up to the last weekend of that month throughout communities in the United States. Nearly one thousand volunteers give their time and skills to help local families with home repairs. Please contact us at 703.836.1021 if you know of an Alexandria family that can be served through our program. "The City of Alexandria and its residents have greatly benefited by RTA's free home repairs." Mayor William Euille, City of Alexandria"When I look around my home and see all of the wonderful home improvements made possible by your program, it warms my heart." SR, homeowner"Each time I look at my house, I say a little thank you to all the volunteers." CL, homeowner |
